Allison Kaplan receives the Zawada Award in Jewish Studies

The award recognizes undergraduate achievement in Jewish studies.

Allison (Allie) Kaplan has been awarded the Aleene Schneider Zawada Award in Jewish Studies from the Department of Jewish, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies. This award acknowledges exceptional academic achievement in the field of Jewish studies. Kaplan majored in Jewish, Islamic, and Middle-Eastern Studies and graduated in the Spring of 2022 with distinction in JIMES.

“In addition to earning stellar grades, Allie went above and beyond the requirements for the JIMES major,” said Martin Jacobs, ​professor of Rabbinic Studies. “[Allie] took advantage of the various opportunities the department offers to engage in a comparative study of Judaism and Islam," said Prof. Jacobs, praising the bredth of her study and analysis. "When classes were offered in a hybrid format during the pandemic [...] Allie stepped forward to support her classmates in a meaningful way," he added, "making sure remote students were not overlooked by the professor but actively participated in classroom discussions.”
