Jake Geiringer Receives the Zawada Award in Jewish Studies

Jake Geiringer has been awarded the Aleene Schneider Zawada Award in Jewish Studies from the Department of Jewish, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies. This award acknowledges exceptional academic achievement in the field of Jewish studies. Geiringer majored in Jewish studies and graduated in the Spring of 2025 with distinction in JIMES.

“I cannot think of a more deserving student for this award," said Prof. Sara Jay. "In a classroom environment where speaking across difference can be challenging, Jake consistently modeled what it looks like to listen with care and respect, especially when engaging with classmates who held views different from his own. Jake approached his work with humility and determination. He was always striving to deepen his understanding and refine his thinking. Over time, I watched him become a stronger and more confident critical writer."

Upon receiving the award, Jake responded, "I feel honored to have received the Zawada Award, and I cannot have done so without the tireless work of my professors and peers in forming such a rewarding academic journey. I look forward to using this education to continue with such fruitful intellectual pursuits in the future."
