Hebrew and Arabic are closely related Semitic languages, sharing a significant amount of grammar and vocabulary. As such, speakers of one language can rapidly acquire the other language with great facility. This course is designed to help students maximize their pre-existing knowledge of Arabic to learn Modern Hebrew quickly and efficiently. We will actively draw comparisons between the two languages, discussing both areas of similarities and differences - all while using Arabic as the starting point for Hebrew acquisition. In addition, we will also discuss language contact between the two and learn terms and expressions from Palestinian Arabic which have permeated colloquial Modern Hebrew.
